Did she just compare birth control to manicures?
In response to the momentous news from the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) that health insurance companies will be required to cover birth control without co-pays, Fox News guest, Sandy Rios had this to say: “We’re $14 trillion in debt and now we’re going to cover birth control, breast pumps, counseling for abuse? Are we going to do pedicures and manicures as well?”
Really? Did she just compare critical, preventive health care services to beauty treatments? Yup.
With the increase in rhetoric and threats around women’s health, it’s so incredibly important that these anti-choice and anti-family planning legislators don’t get re-elected. A contribution of $25, $50 or $100 to the PPNNE Action Fund can help us elect pro-choice advocates.
The anti-family planning politicians are wasting no time in opposing this common sense ruling. Rep. Steve King (R-IA) actually suggested that providing birth control without co-pays would lead to the end of the entire human race. “If you applied that preventative medicine universally what you end up with is you’ve prevented a generation. Preventing babies from being born is not medicine.”
The only way to prevent this type of backwards thinking from effecting women’s health policy is by ensuring pro-choice and pro-family planning legislators are elected. Help us elect and re-elect pro-choice advocates by supporting the PPNNE Action Fund.
